The name “Fernald” consists of the two words fern and ald. Fern is obviously part of my wife’s love for flowers, ald, or more correctly “alt” is the german word for “old”. As I’m in my sixties now, I consider myself “ald”, at least in my home in Cleveland, Ohio. Our winter place in Holmes Beach, Florida, is different, there you have to be at least 90 years old, to be part of that age group.
